ARSENE WENGER will test the backing of the Arsenal board with a £15million move for Fulham defender Brede Hangeland.
The unhappy Gunners boss has been offered the club’s ‘unequivocal support by chief executive Ivan Gazidis following a long meeting this week.
And now Wenger intends to cash in on promises of financial backing by making a club record bid for a defender.

Whilst there is no doubting the need for Wenger to strengthen his surprisingly weak defence many may consider the price tag on the impressive Norwegian to be more than a tad inflated. Hangeland has been fantastic at the heart of the Cottagers defence and it’s because of this brittle backline that the club finds itself battling for a UEFA Cup spot and not in the relegation mire that many would have predicted at the beginning of the season.
With Gallas rumoured to be on his way out and with the likes of Djourou still finding their feet in the first team a player of Brede’s stature and composure is much needed but this rumour comes just days after the club was reportedly very short of transfer funds so it’s hard to know who to believe.
Roy Hodgson will be loathed to lose the 27 year old American born giant but i don’t see the Fulham boss standing in the way of such a move so it’s really all down to just how much backing the Arsenal board give to their long serving boss.
Hangeland to Arsenal: If the club’s money men give the green light for this move then i can see it happening.
