Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is poised to revive his interest in Middlesbrough defender David Wheater as Boro look to trim their squad following their relegation to the Championship.
The Souce: (Daily Telegraph)
Let the Boro Fire Sale begin! There may not be too many players to get overly excited about signing from the Championship bound side but David Wheater is a solid reliable sort of player and at 22 has enough about him to suggest that he could become even better.
On the fringes of the England set up he will know that any hopes he has for a full cap are unlikely to be achieved from the second tier of the domestic game so he has a hard choice to make. Clearly he loves his club and if he thought they could bounce straight back up then a year out of the limelight wouldn’t hurt his personal growth too much but I don’t think the Riverside club will manage a return next season and certainly not with Southgate at the helm. So perhaps he will opt for a return to the Premier League the easy way and clearly Liverpool won’t be the only side interested in snapping him up.
Wheater to Liverpool: Rafa is apparently keen to bring in some English player to boost his homegrown quota but I think this move won’t quite happen, expect instead a move to maybe Aston Villa who are looking to replace retired captain Martin Laursen.
