This bit part player became a crucial part of the title chase and now wants to clarify his future at the club.
Yossi Benayoun is considering his future at Liverpool.
The Daily Mail says Rafa Benitez is facing a fight to hang on to Benayoun after the Liverpool midfielder claimed he had received approaches from clubs in England and Spain.
Manchester City and Benayoun’s former club West Ham have been monitoring his impact on Liverpool’s hunt for honours over the past few months, while Atletico Madrid and Villarreal have been tracking him ever since his header stunned their city rivals at the Bernabeu at the end of February.
It is understood that, after just turning 29, he feels there is one more big pay day to come and that an offer of contract talks at Anfield would be enough to banish any thoughts of moving on.

Yossi is the type of player every manager would like to have. He is versatile and determined and in the two seasons at Anfield since his move from West Ham I think he has greatly benefited the team with his timely finishes and his tireless tackling back and maybe this news story is more about the Israeli trying to secure himself a nice long term contract at the club because I don’t think he wants to leave Liverpool.
Maybe he also wants some clarification as to his status within the squad which could be a problem for Rafa. He can of course play out wide and in the middle but as yet has only really seen a run of starts in the team due to another players injury or loss of form but his displays towards the end of the season were pretty important.
Benayoun to leave Liverpool: I think he will be happy to be offered a long term contract to stay.
