The transfer record will surely be smashed in the next few days.
Manchester United will sell Cristiano Ronaldo – if Real Madrid president Florentino Perez comes up with a stunning £75million.
Boss Sir Alex Ferguson and the club’s money men believe this is the magic number that would make the move happen and are prepared for an official offer in the next few days.
United won’t sell Ronaldo for anything less than a top price, but they accept business could be done if Perez can back up his dream with cash. Perez publicly announced in Spain yesterday that Ronaldo is his next target, to play alongside Kaka.

It seems the football world is on the precipice of a succession of mega bucks transfers and everyone is waiting for the first domino to fall in order to set off the chain reaction.
Real Madrid’s newly elected returning President Perez holds many of the keys in this stack of cards (never mix metaphors unless you can avoid it). Florentino wants Kaka and/or Cristiano and the moment one of these deals is done expect a series of resultant deals to quickly follow involving the likes of Ribery and David Villa.
As for CR7 I wouldn’t be surprised if he has played his last game for Man United. His constant evasion of committing to the club or smiling sheepishly when cornered on the matter must drive the fans mad and I think Sir Alex has had enough of the whole matter so if indeed the Bernabeu outfit puts in such an astronomical bid for the Portuguese international then I think he will take the money and run.
