Benitez looks to bargain buy in economic downturn.
Liverpool are interested in Real Madrid striker Javier Saviola.
Forced to revise his ambitious summer transfer plans, Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez sees Saviola as a quality strike-partner for Fernando Torres.

For three years, during which time he netted 60 times, whilst at Barcelona 27 year old Argentine Saviola was very much in the ascendancy and considered one of the hottest talents around but something happened. Frank Rijkaard didn’t see Javier as part of his grand plan and he was offloaded to Monaco and then Sevilla on season long loan moves.
When his contract the Camp Nou expired he opted to join Barca’s sworn enemies Real Madrid in a move that has back fired big time and left the pint sized striker demoted to a place on the bench for months at a time. A succession of managers at the Bernabeu have not turned to the once prolific marksman and now it seems with all the new talent being brought in by Florentino Perez that it is time for Saviola to seek a move away from the La Liga giants.
Rafa Benitez is known to be a fan and given that the former River Plate man could be snapped up for as little as £4m it really does seem like a risk fee investment, especially if secured with a short term contract. A move to Liverpool could be just what the doctor ordered for a striker desperate to re-ignite his career.
