Rafa may find it hard to turn down this deal!
Samuel Eto’o has been offered to Liverpool by Barcelona in a swap deal as the European Champions step up their bid to land Javier Mascherano.
Eto’o, 28, is one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe after failing to agree a new deal at the Nou Camp.
Barca believe offering him to Liverpool for unsettled Mascherano could help to
smooth a deal. Reds boss Rafa Benitez insisted earlier this week that he wasn’t willing to sell his Argentine defensive midfielder to Barca “at any price” – even £50million.
But Mascherano’s agent, Walter Tamer, also spoke this week about Mascherano’s “dream” of playing for the Champions League winners.

As swap deals go this isn’t a bad one but the club can ill afford to lose Javier Mascherano regardless of what player is offered in return for the Argentine’s signature. The midfielder’s agent has been very vocal in his suggestion that his client would love to move to the Champions League winners and that led to Rafa Benitez trying to put a halt to such rumours by claiming that no bid would be accepted for the former West Ham man, regardless of the size.
Samuel Eto’o however would be a player hard to turn down. Possibly the best striker on the planet right now the Cameroonian has been scoring goals for fun managing to net 130 times in the last five seasons but apparently Pepe Guardiola is accepting bids for the former Real Madrid man which has led to much speculation that he could leave La Liga for the likes of both Manchester sides and now it would appear Liverpool as well.
A partnership of Eto’o and Torres would strike fear into every Premier League defence but the club can not even consider selling their combative central midfielder because he has been a crucial cog in the club wheel. Given that Xabi Alonso is seemingly set to leave the club perhaps a deal to swap the Spaniard for Samuel would be a better fit, as the club really would be in trouble if they lost two of their starting midfield.
