Manchester United Plan Huge £17m Real Madrid Bid!

Sir Alex gives Florentino Perez a taste of his own medicine!

The Rumour

Football - Real Madrid v Liverpool UEFA Champions League Second Round First Leg

Manchester United are planning a major bid for Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

El Mundo Deportivo says United are ready to use cash raised from Cristiano Ronaldo’s sale to Real to bid for Casillas.

Casillas’ minders insist the Spain international is happy in Madrid, but he could be unsettled by the arrival of Ronaldo, who will be earning MORE THAN DOUBLE than he currently enjoys.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is yet to make contact about Casillas’ availability, but has been a long-term admirer

The Analysis

Maybe this is a subtle way for Manchester United to get their own back on serial tapper uppers Real Madrid. It would be fairly amusing if Sir Alex managed to unsettle Iker Casillas into considering a move from the Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka’s wage packets will surely unsettle those who were there long before their arrival and that could set off a chain reaction and breed resentment which could fester if their season gets off to a sticky start, this is what money does to football!

Ferguson does need to think about a keeper for the future. Edwin Van Der Sar seems to have been around since the dark ages and back ups Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszczak are not the finished article. The Spanish international keeper appears to have been around for donkeys years as well but is amazingly still a baby in goalie terms at just 28, which is incredible as he has already clocked up 450+ games at the La Liga giants.

United will find it tough to persuade him to leave but just by trying they at least get on the nerves of Florentino Perez and that can’t be a bad thing!

Casillas to Man United: Not likely but worth shit stirring anyway! Serves Real Madrid right!
