CARLO ANCELOTTI has put Philippe Mexes on top of his Chelsea hitlist to replace Ricardo Carvalho.
Roma are willing to do business for the centre-back at around £12million.

Boss Ancelotti, a former Roma player, knows the Italians need to cash in after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

The Analysis

Ricardo Carvalho is a hard man to replace but given that Carlo Ancelotti has a good pairing in the likes of John Terry and Alex perhaps he doesn’t need to break the bank to bring in new blood. In the age of 50+ fixture seasons I guess it is imperative to have strength in depth and the signing of this good Roma man would be a good idea.

Philippe Mexes is a solid customer but is prone to making the occasional blunder but has a good level of experience. The 27 year old has become a mainstay in the Rome sides defence and helped them to tjree successive runners up finishes in Serie A but now may consider a move from the Stadio Olimpico after his side failed to make the Champions League cut.

He would in many ways suit the English Premier League but would probably get more than his fair share of cautions but would able compete with Alex as a partner for the Chelsea skipper.

The Likelihood

Mexes to Chelsea: I can see this deal coming to fruition.
