Liverpool Set for Incrediblely Stupid £50m Striker Bid

Oh dear lord!

The Rumour

CHELSEA are ready to test Liverpool’s resolve with a £50million bid for Fernando Torres.

Carlo Ancelotti has already targeted Torres’ Spain strike partner David Villa, offering Valencia £35m. Now the Blues boss is ready to make an audacious attempt to unite Villa and Torres at club level.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will do all he can to block the move. But he is worried the huge sum offered by Chelsea could tempt American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

The Analysis

Where do I even start with this one! Let’s pretend that there is a modicum of truth in this rumour, well that would make Chelsea pretty idiotic. Whilst there may be some credence to the claims that Liverpool do not have a great deal of cash at present, they wouldn’t think for one second about selling Fernando Torres.

Secondly there is no way on earth that he would ever consider joining another Premier League outfit if he did leave Anfield. I guess years down the road he may contemplate ending his career back in Spain but It is just so unlikely he would ever ever join Chelsea, much like the rumour linking a move to Man United earlier this month, this is pure rubbish!

I have no doubt that El Nino does truly love Liverpool Football Club. In the last two seasons at the club he has performed fantastically and I think you would be hard pushed to find a striker with as good a record in his first two seasons in the Premier League, such is the ease to which he has adjusted to life after La Liga.

This is not meant to be an attack on Chelsea, but more an attack on the tabloid that seemingly created this rumour out of thin air. For instance it would carry as much validity if a claim was made that John Terry was the subject of a huge offer from Anfield, it simply wouldn’t happen, as it would just be a pointless exercise.
