Spurs Consider Fantastic £17m Signing to Resolve Left Side Problem!

Redknapp looks to make audacious bid for Premier League star.

The Rumour

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is ready to test Chelsea‘s resolve to keep England international Joe Cole at Stamford Bridge.

Redknapp was instrumental in the midfielder’s rapid rise through the ranks at West Ham before he travelled along the Ditsrict Line on the London Undergound to greater fame and glory.

Cole, who has just one year remaining on his current contract, missed much of last season through injury and now has to discover if he features in the plans of Carlo Ancelotti as the new Blues coach has been linked with a number of imports from Italy.

The Analysis

This isn’t the first time that Harry Redknapp has been linked with a move for one of his former West Ham players but perhaps now the timing makes this potential move that bit more possible. Joe Cole has had huge injury concerns and missed almost half of last season as a result but even if fully fit he was finding himself by no means a definite first choice starter at Stamford Bridge.

Now Carlo Ancelotti has arrived his future could be even less certain and he may well be considering his options. Cole has managed just over 150 starts in his six years at the club and oddly enough he is probably one of the very rare examples of a player who has performed more consistently for his country than for his club.

Spurs have long been considered, rightly or wrongly, to have a problem on their left side of midfield. As a result they have been linked with loads of left wingers, from Stewart Downing to Ryan Babel and many in between. At 27 the Islington born man would want to make sure he is playing week in week out, especially with a World Cup on the horizon, but would he consider a move to Tottenham, well perhaps he would if he thought that Redknapp was able to push the club onwards and upwards.
