Spurs In Talks to Bring £9m Maxi to White Hart Lane

Harry looks to bag himself an Argentine International!

The Rumour

Argentina v Venezuela - 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifier

Tottenham have been encouraged in talks over Atletico Madrid winger Maxi Rodriguez.

Spurs intermediaries are convinced Atletico do not regard the Argentina international as ‘untouchable’, compared to his teammates Sergio Aguero, Diego Forlan and Simao.

Maxi could be tempted to London, where would end Spurs boss Harry Redknapp’s problems on the left-side of his midfield.

The Analysis

I think rumour can be filled in the box of potential moves that do have some chance of becoming a reality. Daniel Levy was of course in talks with Real Madrid about bringing in some of their Dutch talent but now it appears that the Tottenham representatives have hung around to see if they can’t secure a deal for Atletico’s impressive Argentine Maxi.

Rodriguez is probably best remembered for his wonder strike in the 2006 World Cup against Mexico but he has been very consistent in seven seasons he has been in La Liga action for first Espanyol and then Madrid’s ‘other’ club. He is a combative player who isn’t as such an out and out winger but he weighs in with a great many assists has an eye for goal, as displayed by the fact he has netted 60 times in those seven seasons which is a healthy average.
