Harry wants another full back!

The Rumour

Real Madrid defender Gabriel Heinze has given Tottenham Hotspur hope of securing his signature after admitting he would welcome a return to the Barclays Premier League.

Spurs have held talks with the Spanish giants over a move for the former Manchester United full-back and could step up their pursuit of the Argentina international after Heinze revealed he would be keen on a return to English football.

‘I would not mind playing Premier League football again,’ the 31-year-old told Argentine news agency Telam. ‘I am aware that several clubs are interested, but I must speak with Real Madrid first.

The Analysis

Now there may be some who wonder why Harry Redknapp is looking to sign yet another full back but clearly the manner of the club’s pursuit of the highly experienced Heinze goes some way to prove that the Spurs boss is not too happy with the many players wide defensive positions at the club.

Harry has a great many full backs at the club, on the left he has the likes of Gareth Bale and Benoit Assou Ekotto to rely on and on the right he has a wealth of opens including Vedran Corluka, Chris Gunter, Alan Hutton and Pascal Chimbonda.

Tottenham were of course linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Dutch contingent but that move seems to have scuppered somewhat and there seems far more potential for this move to be completed, especially given Heinze’s desire to return to the Premier League.

The Likelihood

Heinze to Spurs: Quite possible.
