The Rumour

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are all reported to be tracking arguably the brightest young talent in French football, the 19-year-old midfielder Sofiane Feghouli. However, the English sides are not alone in their interest in the French wonderkid dubbed the ‘New Zidane’ they will have to beat off competition from a number of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Sir Alex Ferguson and co. will be encouraged to make a bid by comments from Grenoble 38 General Director Pierre Wantiez. He told the Dauphine Libere, “Our transfers will also depend on the sale of players.”

“Today Feghouli is the only one who could move on. He has expressed the desire to embark on a new challenge and that is the moment for him.

“If a reasonable offer is made, then we will see. But movements on the market will start later than usually because of the crisis.”

The Analysis

Being dubbed the next “insert world class player here” is a dangerous business and is usually the work of an unscrupulous agent (I guess I didn’t even need to use the word unscrupulous as it’s clearly a given) but clearly the French teenager has a lot of admirers and was reportedly close to a move to Arsenal a while back.

Feghouli made his Under 21 international debut aged just 18 and hasn’t looked back since helping his minnow club into the top tier and cemented their place there with a mid table finish in their first season but now it appears he is destined for bigger things hence speculation linking him with a myriad of top notch sides.

The Likelihood
