Benitez lets England man have it with both barrels!
RAFA BENITEZ has branded Gareth Barry a gold-digger for choosing Manchester City’s cash ahead of a move to Liverpool.
Kop boss Benitez blasted: “With Barry it’s 100 per cent about money. Money, money, money.”
Benitez wanted to land Barry this summer but the England midfield ace chose Eastlands rather than Merseyside.
Barry insisted his decision was based entirely on his desire to be in at the start of the City revolution.
But Benitez scoffed: “In the market now, money should not be the main thing – because all the people in football at that level are on big money.
“At the end of the day, the most important thing for me is the passion of the players.” (The Sun)
I really couldn’t agree with Rafa enough on this one, it’s what we have all been saying for a long time. Not that the former Aston Villa captain is alone in his pursuit of the big bucks but his actions this summer seem to have needled many, especially his former fans at Villa Park.
What I find really hard to understand is why players who are already multi millionaires would then feel the need to act totally out of a desire to get even more cash whilst simultaneously making it clear that their ambitions on the football field rank lower than their search for the highest bidder.
Perhaps Liverpool are lucky that Gareth decided to opt for a move to Eastlands, apart from anything else I sincerely believe that he wouldn’t warrant a place in the Anfield midfield anyway.
