Manchester United Attempt £25m Striker Smash and Grab!

Fergie considers last ditch move for Man City target.

The Rumour

ALEX FERGUSON is aiming to snatch Samuel Eto’o from under the noses of Manchester City with a £25million bid.

The Barcelona striker told club president Joan Laporta he’d be leaving the Nou Camp just hours before City ended their interest.

That left Manchester United with a clear run at the Cameroon international and they are ready to offer him a four-year deal on £150,000-a-week

Eto’o is also seeking more money based on appearances and goals.

Agent Jose Maria Masalles said: “At 28 he wants to join a club which will give him another chance of winning trophies.

“It can’t be just about money. It has to be about the sporting project.”

United will make it clear they will not be kept waiting and will not increase their offer.

The Analysis

There are two schools on thought on this one. There are those who feel that Sir Alex needs to more satifactorily replace the loss of Carlos Tevez and more importantly Cristiano Ronalod and that whilst Luis Antonio Valencia is a good start it’s not enough. Then there are those who may feel that the club doesn’t need another striker, because signing another big name could simply cause friction between those already filling those spots at the club, in much the same way as was caused when Tevez felt he wasn’t getting a look in.

Samuel Eto’o’s agent states that his client wants to join a club that can win him trophies, yes somewhat contradicts this by seemingly being at one time on the verge of a move to Man City, no disrespect meant but the only trophies that Mark Hughes is going to secure in the next two seasons will be the Carling Cup or the FA Cup so quite how this factors in with the Cameroonians wishes is another matter.

I can’t help but think that all of this back and forth between Barcelona and the 28 year old goal machine is simply a ruse to get more money and it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t in fact leave the club at all.

The Likelihood

Eto’o to Man United: More likely than a move to Eastlands but still not a move I can see happening.
