In the slightly altered words of the Pet Shop Boys song “What have they done to deserve this”!
Referee to Joey Barton: Please don’t hit me, It’s only a Yellow!
Just when the Toon Army thought it couldn’t get any worse … bad boy Joey Barton returned to the Newcastle team yesterday.
It looked like they had seen the back of Barton after his disgraceful sending-off at Liverpool last season and subsequent falling out with Alan Shearer.
But, with Shearer still to be appointed manager, Barton started the 3-0 pre-season friendly defeat of Shamrock Rovers.
As usual the 26-year-old, who was continually abused by the Irish supporters, failed to finish the game – although at least he wasn’t sent-off this time as he only played the first 45 minutes with Newcastle replacing the whole team at the break. (The Express)
Why oh why hasn’t this guy been sacked by the club, if it is because it would simply be too pricey an option, then fair enough, but if it is for any other purpose then I am sure the Newcastle United fans deserve to know why. This thug used to be able to hide behind a pillar of having some footballing ability to stabilize those who claimed he was nothing but an animal but his actions against Liverpool last season, when he cruelly fouled Xabi Alonso and got himself sent off, therefore ruling himself out of the final games of the season were the final nail in a nail ridden footballing coffin.
The guy is a waste of space and I challenge anyone to give me one good reason why he is still employed by the St James’ Park outfit!
