Chelsea Offered Astounding £38m Ibrahimovic Swap Deal by Inter Milan President!

San Siro President names his price for Zlatan

Sports News - January 22, 2009

The Rumour

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has set his price for Chelsea to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Moratti is confident the Swede will start the season at Inter, but he has drawn up a backup plan in the event Ibra demands a move to London.

Corriere dello Sport says Moratti will demand Deco, Ricardo Carvalho and Didier Drogba from Chelsea in exchange for the super Swede.

Drogba has pledged his future to Chelsea, though is still to sign a new contract tabled to him last month.

The Analysis

Earlier this week the reigning Serie A title holders claimed that money couldn’t buy Zlatan Ibrahimovic and perhaps they were actually saying, give us lots of players in exchange and we’ll think about it, because this source claims that scary looking Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti will let the Swede leave if Carlo Ancelotti gives up three of his squad in return.

On the face of it this deal doesn’t look too bad at all. Look at the players Chelsea would lose. Didier Drogba seems like he wants to leave the club, and has done since Jose Mourinho left, and clearly if Zlatan was coming in return then the Ivorian wouldn’t be so badly missed. Then we come to the Portuguese pair, Deco was a startling flop last season and doesn’t appear to be part of the new boss’s plans, which leaves Ricardo Carvalho. The veteran centre back is a top notch performer but he does appear to be keen on reuniting with “The Special One” so in a way it would make sense to let him leave rather than keep an unhappy player at the club.

The Likelihood

Trio in swap deal with Inter Milan: If that really is the offer needed to snap up the stunningly effective Ibrahimovic then I am sure Ancelotti would jump at the chance.
