Italian giants actively seek bidders for Midfield Maestro!

The Rumour

AC Milan are ready to sell Andrea Pirlo to Chelsea.

Corriere della Sera says Milan have decided to make Pirlo available as they seek to fund a deal for Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano.

“For now we have not received offers,” said Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to bring Pirlo to Stamford Bridge before the start of the season.

The Analysis

Not sure I buy this story. Why the hell do AC Milan need to sell before they can buy? Didn’t they just sell Kaka for a then record transfer fee, albeit for about a week, of £56m! So why the hell can they not afford to spend spend spend?

Anyway Carlo Ancelotti has set his heart on capturing the intelligent midfielder and it seemed that the main reason the deal hadn’t been struck up until now was that the San Siro side didn’t want to spark another riot amongst their fans in much the same way they reacted when their Brazilian superstar was sold to Real Madrid.

Pirlo is a vastly experienced player who could well be a big hit in the Premier League but even though the Italian international is 30 years of age the Serie A club are asking for a fee in the region of £22m.

The Likelihood

Pirlo to Chelsea: Fairly confident that this deal will be done before the end of August.
