Aston Villa star on the Rafa Radar!
Liverpool will be installed as the favourites to sign Aston Villa winger Ashley Young if Xabi Alonso is sold to Real Madrid.
That move is looking increasingly likely as the Spain international is keen on a switch to the Bernabeu and a £27million deal could be concluded by the end of the week.
Any cash being deposited in the Anfield coffers will not stay there long, however, as Rafa Benitez will make a move for England international Young before seeking a direct replacement for Alonso.

This one seems to have come out of thin air, which makes me dubious of it’s validity. Make no mistake there is a good chance that Ashley Young will not start the season at Villa Park and the fact that Stewart Downing’s move to Aston Villa seems set to be completed is further evidence that the left winger could well be on his way sooner rather than later.
Man United and Spurs were two sides reportedly very interested in the former Watford star and even Real Madrid were apparently monitoring the situation but now apparently Liverpool are keen. Benitez has been looking for some more natural width in his team and is supposedly not that impressed with Albert Riera’s first season at the club, which seems a bit harsh as I thought he had a decent one.
Young is an exciting live wire of a player who can beat a man for pace and bangs in his fair share of goals, 18 in his past two seasons, and would be a good solid signing but is the left wing slot the most urgent to fill at the club? Admittedly the England man can also play as a second striker so maybe that would be a more likely position.
