Long running saga set to continue for a little while longer!
Benitez wants to make a significant profit in replacing Alonso, to allow him to pursue Valencia winger David Silva.
With transfer activity gathering pace at Anfield, insiders within the club suggest that if a deal can be concluded to sell Alonso at the right price over the weekend, the club will try to wrap up a £20m deal for Silva next week.
Talks have been ongoing for some months, but the player has now returned from a holiday and it is thought a fee could be thrashed out in the early part of next week allowing Silva to sign by Wednesday.

Is this source’s assertion that Silva could be on his way to Anfield a case of wishful thinking or does it have some basis in fact, good question I hear you scream, to be honest I think it’s a bit of both. David Silva stated before his desire to play in England, unlike David Villa who has one more than one occasion stated that he doesn’t intend on leaving Spain.
If Rafa does lose Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid then he will have a hefty chunk of change to invest, however the Valencia man wouldn’t be a replacement for the outgoing midfielder so that position would also need to be filled.
There is no doubting Silva’s adaptability and skill and would best suit Liverpool playing out wide right although he is probably stronger on the left both positions could do with an improvement. Dirk Kuyt has worked his socks of in a position that doesn’t really suit him and arguably Albert Riera hasn’t shown what he is capable of as yet and Ryan Babel seems to be going backwards rather than forwards.
Silva to Liverpool: If Alonso does leave the money will be there for such a swoop thus making a deal more plausible.
