Liverpool Set for Cheeky £32m Barcelona Bid

La Liga and Champions League winners once again tap-up the opposition!

SOCCER 2009 - Espanyol Beat Barcelona 2-1

The Rumour

Barcelona refuse to give up their bid for Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano.

El Mundo Deportivo says Barca have been informed by Mascherano’s representatives that the Argentine doesn’t want to hear from them until they have reached an agreement with Liverpool.

Barca haven’t had contact with the midfielder’s minders since they tentatively agreed terms over a five-year contract worth £4 million-a-season.

The Analysis

Javier’s missus isn’t too happy about living in England, but then nor is Nemanja Vidic’s but at least the Man United defender ignored his wife whereas Mascherano may well give in to her moaning or at least use it as an excuse to scarper! But seriously, why are Barcelona now once again using local papers to tap up opposition players?

It seemed like this move was well and truly shelved but it appears once again to have been put out there by the sneaky Barcelona media machine who uses El Mundo in much the same way Real Madrid use The Marca.

Rafa seems to have dugg his heel in on this one and is resisting any offer for the Argentine captain whereas there is at least some kind of valuation on Xabi Alonso’s head, Mascherano is deemed untouchable by the Liverpool boss.

The Spanish giants could probably do with some midfield steel and hence they are interested in a player who is one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe and will presumably keep chasing until the transfer window closes.

The Likelihood

Mascherano to Barcelona: Benitez will not allow this move to take place, regardless of how much is offered.
