Redknapp closes in on former favourite!

Football - Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City Barclays Premier League

The Rumour

Peter Crouch will take a £1million pay cut to complete a £12m move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.

Today’s Evening Standard reports the England and Portsmouth striker will seal his move to Spurs in the next xouple of days even though he could earn more money at Sunderland.

Crouch has been in talks with Sunderland but is ready to turnd down wages of £80,000 a week in order to move to London.

The Analysis

Having seemingly lost the fight to land Real Madrid striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who has reportedly signed for Stuttgart, Harry Redknapp is apparently hours away from clinching a deal to sign Peter Crouch. Clearly the Spurs boss is a big fan of the England man having brought him to Portsmouth from Liverpool when he was in charge at Fratton Park.

The giant forward has been a model of consistency since moving from Anfield to Pompey last summer but the period of uncertainty at the club appears to have pushed him towards the exit.

This news will obviously worry the mass of attacking talent already at White Hart Lane and such a move probably spells the end of the line for either Darren Bent or Roman Pavyluchenko, if not both. Redknapp seems keen to re-create the little and large partnership of Defoe and Crouch which proved very successful at Portsmouth.

The Likelihood

Crouch to Tottenham: A deal seems set to be complete.
