Former favourite could be on his way back to the club!
Liverpool have emerged as shock contenders to take Peter Crouch back to Anfield in a £12m deal.
The England hitman was thought to be heading to Tottenham after he spurned Sunderland approaches.
But Kop boss Rafa Benitez has the 28-year-old striker on his radar and has asked to be kept informed with Liverpool currently on tour in Thailand. Spurs and Fulham had looked set to fight it out for the 6ft 7in star with Portsmouth boss Paul Hart resigned to losing him.
But Liverpool’s emergence in the race is a surprise – the striker spent three years at the the club before Benitez sold him to Pompey in an £11m deal last

This is a bit of a bolt out of the blue, but perhaps a move that makes a great deal of sense. Crouch had a slow start to his Anfield career but slowly became something of a cult hero at the club and always tried his heart out for the team and proved very effective towards the latter stages of his Liverpool career. All in all his time on Merseyside can be considered in my view as a success. He managed to accrue 40 goals in 92 starts which is not bad going at all.
Perhaps Rafa feels that the Pompey man could work well alongside Fernando Torres, something that was tried sparingly in 07/08 but I feel that England man has greatly improved his game at Fratton Park and has shown that he is more than just a lanky beanpole but is more than able to get the ball on the ground and play.
the 28 year old would surely jump at the chance of a return as long as he was guaranteed a decent run in the first team as he would not be keen, so close to a World Cup, to find himself warming the bench.
Crouch to Liverpool: Could well happen.
