Not bloody likely!
ARSENE WENGER is planning a double dip into the transfer market for Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Wigan’s England under-21 midfielder Lee Cattermole.
The Arsenal manager has come under fire over his lack of spending this summer with some Gunners fans worried that they are falling behind their top four rivals.
Wenger’s only purchase during the close season has been £10million Ajax defender thomas Vermaelen.
But now the Frenchman, armed with £25m from the sale of Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City, is ready to splash out again.
The Emirates Stadium boss believes that Huntelaar, who has had an unhappy time at the Bernabeu since leaving Ajax, can be his ‘fox in the box’ and grab the goals which could help land the club their first trophy since the FA Cup in 2005. (Sunday Express)
Ermm not sure what to make of this, the Express is notoriously shady when it comes up with speculation. I don’t doubt that we are after Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in some shape of form, whether this actually forms into an actual offer is another matter.
As for Lee Cattermole, maybe I am mistaken but isn’t he little more than a decent player with thug like tendancies? Doesn’t strike me as an ‘Arsene’ type player at all. I have no doubt that the boss would love to bring in more English talent but is more likely to pick from the various good prospects coming through the ranks rather than forking out for more than likely over priced purchases from fellow Premier League clubs.
I do hope we do sign a couple more new players and like the idea of trying to get the Real Madrid ace but somehow I don’t see that deal being done. We still need a battling midfielder but one with experience, top level experience. Felipe Melo and Yaya Toure were the ones I was hoping we would capture but we missed on both fronts and It did seem we tried to sign both at some stage over the past 12 months, which is a little worrying.
Wenger still has my full backing so hopefully he is just bidding his time waiting for the right player/s to become available.
