What a deal!
BBC Sport’s roving reporter Sam Lyon: “It doesn’t take a genius to work out that Tottenham’s training ground in Chigwell could be busier than a one-legged Riverdancer today, but I can confirm Niko Kranjcar is on his way there to sign from Portsmouth for what I believe is the paltry sum of around £2m – bargainous. (BBC Sport)
Yes he was nearing the end of his contract, but this is still one hell of a bargain buy. We are talking about one of the most skillful players in the Premier League. In his three seasons at Fratton Park he has consistently displayed his ability to link midfield to attack and has done so whilst watching his big name midfield partners seek pastures new. He watched on as the likes of Sulley Muntari and Lassana Diarra went off to join Europe’s elites and was always likely to follow.
Earlier this month it seemed he would wait until the summer and give Portsmouth one last season but clearly the pull of moving to Spurs to join his former manager was too great and for the White Hart Lane club to complete the deal for such a paltry sum is simply amazing.
