The Liverpool Players Who Are Simply Not Good Enough

Pundits and so called ‘experts’ have been talking endlessly about the ineffective nature of quite a few players within Rafa’s first team squad after some rather woeful performances and defensive nightmares, but are there really players at the club who are not good enough, and if so, who are they?

I have personally in the past attacked Lucas Leiva’s poor displays but he has actually put in some good games this season whilst being nothing less than average in others. Some commentators have suggested that the entire back four is looking shaky, and whilst its true we are showing some alarming attempts at clearing a simple ball, but lets not forget that for the past few seasons we have been the club who has conceded pretty much less than all around them, so it would be churlish to suggest that good players have become bad overnight.

Javier Mascherano has come in for some criticisms of late as well and he hasn’t looked anything like the player he was last term but is still in my book one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe on his day.

Other players who have been tarred with the “he’s not good enough” brush are the likes of Fabio Aurelio, Emiliano Insua, David Ngog and Andriy Voronin. Hell even Steven Gerrard has got some stick from clearly insane people.

Would any of my fellow fans actually go as far as to say that any member of our regular first team picture isn’t good enough? Personally I would state that a few players have had off days but do not deserve the kind of barracking they have got in recent weeks. Yes we have already lost three league games and that’s certainly not good enough but remember we are only six points from top and its very early days. I think also that this season promises to be a far more open affair with a few clubs challenging for a spot in that coveted top four and many sides have got significantly better and it is their success, rather than any backward step by ourselves, that means that we can’t so easily expect to win every game.
