Internazionale have moved quickly to deny reports Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is lining up talks with goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
The news gives more weight to the groundswell of opinion that under-fire understudy Ben Foster will not be given any more chances to prove he is the natural successor to Dutch veteran Edwin van der Sar, who on Tuesday made his return from broken fingers in a reserve Premier League game.
Cesar’s future at the San Siro has come under scrutiny since his wife revealed that a “big club” had made enquiries about his availability.
However, the Brazil international insists he has had no contact with Old Trafford officials and is content to see out his contract, which runs until 2012.
“I deny everything,” he said. “I have a contract with Inter.”
Technical director Marco Branca also revealed the Serie A champions are in discussions aimed at extending the 30-year-old’s future in Italy.
“We are already working on a solution,” Branca said. “Soon his contract will be sorted out.
“I don’t see any problems, the discussions are continuing in a calm way.”
