Italian giants want Javier.
Javier Mascherano’s summer bid to leave for pastures new was blocked by Liverpool but come January the club’s resolve is set to once again be tested.
A couple of months ago it was European champions Barcelona who attempted to lure the Argentina skipper away from Anfield.
Now it is Italian giants Juventus who are preparing to swoop for the midfielder with a fresh bid expected once the transfer window re-opens in the New Year.
Mascherano is under contract with the Merseyside side until 2012, but is thought to want a new challenge after his partnership with Xabi Alonso was broken up in the summer.
The Old Lady is prepared to dig deep into her purse and splash £23 million on Mascherano, who has an Italian passport, as they seek to wrest the Italian title of Jose Mourinho’s Internazionale. (Eurosport)
If you had asked me two months ago whether I thought there was any chance Rafa would allow Javier to leave the club I would have stated categorically, no. And on top of that I would have stated that I would rather cut off my own hands than see that move happen, but something has happened to the Argentine of late.
He hasn’t been the same player as he was last term and many fellow fans have suggested, perhaps rightly, that his head was turned by all the interest from Barcelona last summer and that it has effected his game. He has looked off the pace and at times disinterested with life at Anfield and we have actually looked a more organized unit when he has been out of the team.
However I still rate him as one of the best in Europe in his position and when he is on his best game he is unplayable and for that reason Rafa should turn down any bid that comes in for the former West Ham man. I think it will just take the Gaffer to sit down with the Argentine Captain and try to get his mind back into life at Liverpool and hopefully in time we will see him improve and return to the form that made him irreplaceable last season.
