Rafa considering move for former arch rival striker.
The former Manchester United striker is struggling to gain first team action at the Bernabeu, losing his spot in the side after the summer acquisitions of Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, with the later two in direct competition for places at the top of the pitch for Real.
This coupled with a string of injuries has meant that van Nistelrooy is fighting for his place in the Dutch World Cup squad, and needs first team action to remain in contention for the trip to South Africa.
Rafa Benitez could give the 33-year-old a new lease of life at Anfield, and the Daily Mirror reports that a short-term move is being prepared for January.

Well having just witnessed the ‘Jermain Defoe show’ I would hasten Rafa to offer a large sum of Hicks and Gillett’s cash to Tottenham but I don’t see Harry Redknapp entertaining any notion of a sale but perhaps Ruud Van Nistelrooy is an altogether more realistic target.
Yes we all know that Old Horse Face used to play for the enemy but we also know that he used to score goals for fun and when not injured he still is able of scoring with alarming regularity and is reportedly available for as little as £5m as Real Madrid look to trim their wage bill and remove all those who they consider ‘surplus to requirements’.
We don’t have a plethora of options up front and as far as value for money is concerned such a move for the Dutch international would be a decent one in my view and whilst it is clearly only a short term solution to the problem he could also help teach the likes of Nemeth (please bring him back from Greece) and Ngog a thing or two.
