Rafa apparently makes January plans that look very promising indeed.

Liverpool fans, here’s a titbit from the web deep throats’ site of choice: “Ryan Babel to Birmingham for £10m. Andriy Voronin to Zenit St Petersburg for £3m. Philipp Degen will move to Wigan for £2m and Andrea Dossena is going to Atlético Madrid for £4.5m. With £20m at his disposal, Rafa will spend £11m on [Galatasaray’s] Arda Turan, £3.5m on [Standard Liege’s] Milan Jovanovic and £5m on [Crystal Palace’s] Victor Moses.” (Guardian)

On the face of it this would indeed be a good bit of business. I like the idea of Liverpool getting £10m for Ryan Babel but is it at all likely that Birmingham City would make such a bid and also at all likely that the Dutchman would opt for such a move? I think a move from Anfield is inevitable but it is more likely he will move to the continent and perhaps back to his former club Ajax.

Far more likely is Andrei Voronin’s move to Russian side Spartak Moscow and this deal appears the best on offer for us to cash in on the Ukrainian flop. Philipp Degen’s injury hit time at Liverpool also seems set to come to an end and a move to Wigan seems about right for a player who really hasn’t shown enough to be able to represent any side with top six ambitions. As for Andrea Dossena well his move to Napoli appears to have stalled and if he could clinch a move to Atletico Madrid then I think he would jump at the chance even with the La Liga side struggling for form this term.

Arda Turan is a very talented attacking midfielder and would be a coup of a signing if Rafa can pull it off, the Turkish international is reportedly very keen on a Premier League move. We also know all about Milan Jovanovic having come against the Standard Liege striker in Champions League qualifying action, but not sure he is up to the standard we should be looking for in a frontman. Victor Moses would be a good capture for the future.
