Tottenham Hotspur are back in the hunt to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso.

The Portuguese defensive midfielder has been on the radar at White Hart Lane for some time, but fresh reports suggest Spurs sent scouts to watch the player on Sunday in the Portuguese cup.

Veloso scored a screamer for Lisbon in the victory over Braga, and the scouts will have gone back to north London with a glowing reference on the 23-year-old.

Defensive midfielder Veloso has eight international caps for Portugal, scoring once for his country in the 4-0 World Cup qualifying victory against Malta.

Arsenal, Barcelona and Fiorentina have all been linked with the Estádio José Alvalade star in the past, but now The Times reports that Spurs are ready to make their intentions clear in this month’s transfer window.

Redknapp had previously been linked with Sandro, another defensive midfielder from Internacional in Brazil. However, his attentions have switched to a player with proven european pedigree at a competitive side in Liga Sagres.

The Spurs boss is eager to add some competition alongside Tom Huddlestone and Wilson Palacios, although exits would be expected before another player is drafted in at the Lane. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)

So there you have it, Harry wanted another option in the centre of the midfield and Miguel Veloso is a pretty good midfielder on his day and it could be that he finally leaves Sporting Lisbon who appear to have been holding him hostage for about three years as the Portuguese International seems to constantly be trying to engineer his way out. He has sufficient quality to keep The Hudd and Wilson on their toes and appears keen to give the Premier League a real shot. White Hart Lane would be a good move for the 23 year old and the £12m rated battler would be a better buy than the less experienced Sandro.

According to The Sun, Dinamo Zagreb have confirmed that Tottenham and Lyon are battling over the signature of defender Dejan Lovren. Tottenham had been reported to have recently made a €7M bid for the highly rated centre-back.

Lovren is one of the hottest young talents in Croatia and has impressed Tottenham scouts since breaking into the Dinamo Zagreb first team 18 months ago. The 20 year-old has been at Dinamo Zagreb for his entire career so far, apart from loan spells. Chelsea have also been linked with the defender.

A top Dinamo source commenting on Tottenham’s interest said, “Redknapp is very interested and has sought information on Dejan.

“Lyon have made an offer but Dinamo are looking for more money.”

He already has two international caps to his name and at 6ft 1in provides an imposing physical presence. Lovren is a versatile player and is also able to play as a defensive midfielder. Lovren is considered to be a strong all round defensive player with good pace and dominant in the air.

Tottenham already have three former Dinamo Zagreb players on their books, Luka Modric, Niko Kranjcar and Vedran Corluka. (IMscouting)

We appear to be getting closer to sealing this deal and another Croatian, Stipe Pletikosa, has been stating left right and centre that he is about to sign for us and that would mean we would have a veritable feast of Croats at the club. Pletikosa is a vastly experienced keeper and would provide good cover for a rejuvenated Gomes. Lovren is an up and coming centre back and appears to be available for a good price and presumably he would jump at the chance of moving to Tottenham over a move to Lyon.

Jamie O’Hara, meanwhile, will discover this week where his immediate future lies.
His loan deal at Portsmouth expires on Friday with the Fratton Park club hoping to pay off enough debts to have their transfer embargo lifted before then.
If they succeed he will stay with Pompey for the rest of the season – if not he could be heading to Wolves or Fulham on a temporary basis with the Premier League prepared to give the England Under-21 international special dispensation to play for three clubs in a year. (Metro)

Portsmouth are in serious trouble right now and Jamie has found himself in a bit of a sticky situation. A move to Fulham or Wolves would probably preferable to his continuing to struggle at Pompey at least it would give him a chance to properly express himself at a club who are seemingly doomed. O’Hara is a good player who just can’t get within sight of the Tottenham first team picture but he is a useful player to have around so I don’t see Harry Redknapp looking to sell him anytime soon and unless the midfielder really pushes for a permanent move away from White Hart Lane I would imagine he would see out a loan deal somewhere else until the summer when the situation can be reassessed.
