Arsene Wenger starts to plan impressive January additions to his Emirates squad.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti have been put on red alerts after Inter Milan forward Mario Balotelli’s future was thrown into doubt following an outburst by his Cameroonian teammate Samuel Eto’o.
Balotelli has been linked with a move to Arsenal and Chelsea in the last year, but both Arsene Wenger and Carlo Ancelotti ruled out moves in the January window for the talented 19-year-old. Arsenal are in desperate need of signing a forward following a long term injury to Robin Van Persie.
However the latest public criticism by teammate Eto’o has reportedly upset the young front man who has been on the receiving end of mass criticism from the Italian media and boss Jose Mourinho.
Eto’o said yesterday at the African Cup of Nations:
“Balotelli has everything it takes to become a football star. He has the talent and the physique, but all this is not enough by itself,” Eto’o explained.
“Mario needs to become humbler, but he is still young and will mature.” (Sport.co.uk)
It seems that Mario Balotelli is upsetting Samuel Eto’o with some reporting that this could be the final nail in the young Italian’s Inter Milan coffin. Having already fallen out with Jose Mourinho and grown gradually more and more angered by the racist abuse he has received it seems that the Gunners could well be in line to make a successful move for Balotelli. The teenage striker has been linked with a move to the Emirates on a number of occasions and Arsene Wenger is known to be a big admirer of the determined if slightly awkward forward.
The Gunners could do with another striking option and even if this move was projected for the summer and with Robin Van Persie fit again, it would still be a very smart move to consider bringing in the San Siro man. He has shown great potential and if his temperament can be reigned in then Arsenal could well have one hell of a star in the making in Super Mario.
Skysports.com understands that Peterborough United have bolstered their defensive options after bagging Arsenal’s Kerrea Gilbert on loan.
Posh were on the lookout for defensive reinforcements after Birmingham recalled Krystian Pearce, who had been on a season-long loan.
Peterborough attempted to sign Southend’s Simon Francis, but he rejected a move to the Championship side.
United manager Mark Cooper is determined to help keep the side up and has now moved to sign Gilbert, who is out of contract in the summer.

Kerrea Gilbert has improved greatly this season but still finds himself way back in the queue so therefore a move to Championship struggler’s Peterborough is the right move for everyone concerned. The right back had a corker of a game against Liverpool in the Carling Cup and I think Arsenal boss Wenger still sees the 22 year old as very much part of his Emirates plans.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is being linked with a move for Osasuna defender Cesar Azpilicueta.
An attacking full-back who fits the free-flowing Arsenal bill, Azpilicueta has a growing reputation across Europe and has been monitored by some of the top clubs on this continent.
The 20-year-old Spanish starlet has been in fine form for his hometown team this season, continuing to raise his standards after becoming a first team regular at the age of 18 in the 2007/08 campaign.
Azpilicueta joined Los Rojillos as a boy, representing Osasuna at youth team level and working his way through the club. This pattern has been replicated with his Spanish representation, playing at various junior levels from U17 to U21 and now challenging for a spot in Spain’s 2010 World Cup squad.
Wenger has brought some of the finest La Liga talent back to north London in the past, and now the Daily Mail reports that the Frenchman is preparing a move for another young star.
Azpilicueta has a minimum fee release clause of £12 million, which could prove to be a stumbling block over a potential switch to the Emirates.
Wenger is contemplating an offer in the region of £7 million, and will hope that established links with the club could help secure a switch to the Gunners ahead of any other possible suitors. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Talking of right sided players it appears that Arsenal are also chasing Spanish Under 21 international Cesar Azpilicueta. The Osasuna man has been on many top club’s radars since he was part of the successful Spanish Under 19 side who won the 2007 European Championships and Wenger appears keen to snap up the youngster but is such a transfer really necessary given the amount of options already at the club both at first team and youth team level?
