Arsenal to sign young French talent
Maxime Gonalons is to sign for Arsenal from Lyon in the summer
Arsenal have been widely reported looking to sign 20-year-old Maxime Gonalons, the highly talented Lyon defensive midfielder.
Maxime is said to be the most promising young French footballer around and Arsene Wenger has had him recommended by Arsenal’s French scout, former player Gilles Grimandi.
This swoop for the talented midfielder also makes good business sense, something Arsene Wenger is some what known for. Maxime Gonalons is on a one-year contract with a two-year option at Lyon. However the club can only activate that option and demand a transfer fee if he moves to another French club so Arsenal could snap up Gonalons for free.
Gonalons has already haunted some of the Premier League teams, most recently in the Champions League where he played and scored against Liverpool this season.
The move to the Emirates could be as soon as June, this would surely be a prefect signing to improve the highly gifted Arsenal side and allow the likes of Fabregas to express themselves even more. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Whilst Alex Song and Denilson have done a grand job giving Cesc Fabregas more time and space on the ball and Abou Diaby has grown into the player we had all hoped he would become there is always room for good quality players and especially those available for nothing.
We could do with more defensive midfield options and the Lyon man Maxime Gonalons ticks most boxes and would be a good Emirates acquisition. The 20 year old is on the verge of a full French call up even though he has relatively little professional experience such is the quality the rangy midfielder has displayed.
Arsenal are battling on a number of fronts this term and will hopefully end their silverware drought but its always worth planning ahead and if the youngster can indeed be freed from his Lyon contract at no expense then that is all well and good however I would’ve thought that as a player under the age of 24 that we would have to pay some sort of tribunal agreed fee.
