Harry considers move for very effective midfielder battler.
Spurs are reportedly chasing Real Madrid star Mahamadou Diarra.
The Mali midfielder has returned to Spain injured after his country were knocked out of the African Cup of Nations, and Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is reportedly preparing a bid for the defensive central midfielder.
Diarra moved to Madrid for €26 million in 2006, making the swith from Lyon after four years with the Ligue 1 side.
The 28-year-old has been in-and-out of the Madrid side over the previous years, missing a large chunk of the 2008-09 season through injury and losing his starting place to Lassana Diarra during the current campaign.
The Spanish giants are thought to be looking to offload some of their side, with Fernando Gago another midfielder linked with a move to the Premier League.
It is Mahamadou Diarra who interests Spurs however, with Redknapp interested in adding the midfield powerhouse alongside his finesse players at White Hart Lane.
A bid in the region of £8 million would be needed to prize the experienced international away from the Galacticos, although Redknapp will need assurances on the player’s fitness with another injury set to leave Diarra on the sidelines once again. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)
Mahamadou Diarra is a player that would prove a very wise addition to the White Hart Lane squad whilst not breaking the bank. Whenever I have seen the Mali International in action I have noted that he does all the dirty sides of the game very effectively and yes he is not the most spectacular player on the park but he appears to be a player who is aware of his limitations and knows how to break up opposition attacks and is very adept at shielding the ball and feeding it to those more able to keep the ball moving and as such he may be just what we have been looking for at Tottenham.
For a while now Harry Redknapp has been talking about beefing up the central midfield and I think another defensive midfield option would come in very handy and the Real Madrid man could effectively work well alongside either The Hudd or Wilson but clearly if he were to be paired with Palacios we may be a little brittle but that kind of formation could work well when on the road and if indeed he could be brought in for just £8m then that would be a very good value signing.
