Arsenal are finalising a four-year deal with Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh, with chief executive Ivan Gazidis negotiating the Moroccan’s contract, so Arsene Wenger has at least secured one new signing for next season.
Chamakh is out of contract this summer so entitled to speak to Gazidis but the club are unlikely to announce it until the end of the season out of respect for Bordeaux. Chamakh has made little secret of the move.
‘I’ve dreamed of the Premier League since I was a little boy. I am ready to discover the experience for myself,’ he said last week.

With profits of £35.2million for the six months to November 2009 and debt cut by £129m, Arsenal fans are hoping Wenger will spend this summer.

Arsenal have outlined West Brom star Graham Dorrans as a summer transfer target, according to reports.

A host of clubs including Newcastle United, Sunderland, Celtic and Manchester City have all been linked with a move for Dorrans, who has been one of the star performers in the Championship this season.

Arsenal have been following the Scottish international closely and it is thought a bid in the region £6 million would be enough to secure the players services.

Wenger is looking to add more depth to his squad after losing young Aaron Ramsey for the rest of this season after breaking his leg in a challenge with Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross.

It is thought that the 22-year-old would favour a move to the Emirates in the summer, especially with Arsenal’s track record of developing young talent.

Dorrans made over 35 appearances for West Brom scoring eight goals since he completed his move to The Hawthorns in 2008. (Give Me Football – Official PFA Website)

First I should start by offering my best wishes to Aaron Ramsey who will hopefully make it back to full fitness in the fullness of time. It was a sickening injury which may not have looked as a result of a tackle as deliberate as those who assaulted Abou Diaby and Eduardo, but was nonetheless a very rash challenge.

So, it appears that Marouane Chamakh is a Gooner and on his way to the Emirates, but hang on, wasn’t that supposedly confirmed a few weeks back? Lets just wait until we see him scarf aloft in an Arsenal shirt before we count out chickens once again. The Moroccan looks a promising prospect but he looks like an addition to our frontline that is nowhere near as good as a fully fit RVP and Eduardo so would be interesting to see how the Bordeaux man would fair in the Premier League.

So the Daily Mail says we will sign one, maybe two, centre backs in the summer as well. Enough defenders have been linked with a move to the club with Neven Subotic, the Borussia Dortmund man, figuring most prominently in frequent speculative articles. We may well need another defensive option I am hopeful that William Gallas will sign a new deal. More strength in depth is needed but only if the player linked is as good or indeed better than anyone in our primary first team squad, which leads me neatly to this other bit of gossip.

Now I am not saying 22 year old Scottish international Graham Dorrans is not a good player but I doubt the likelihood of us making a move for the West Brom midfielder. I don’t see why we would need another attack minded midfielder as we have a bucketload of those. The former Livingston man is one of the best players outside the Premier League but this summer I think Arsene Wenger will feel the need to make moves for big name experienced players rather than bringing in players that will take time to bed in.
