Pepe Reina will be hoping that no beach balls are in attendance at Anfield!
Liverpool will again be without defenders Fabio Aurelio (thigh) and Martin Skrtel (foot), though the duo should return to action next month.
Midfielder Alberto Aquilani could return to the starting line-up after recovering from illness.
Sunderland defender John Mensah is a doubt after limping off in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa.
The club will assess the fitness of Kenwyne Jones, who has missed the last two games with a hip flexor problem.
Injured: Aurelio (thigh), Skrtel (foot)
Doubtful: Jones (hip), Mensah (hamstring)
Injured: Reid (hamstring) (BBC Sport)
Given that Liverpool are now seven points adrift of fourth spot nothing less than a win at home to Sunderland will suffice if the Merseyside outfit can realistically capture that coveted Champions League spot. Steve Bruce brings a rejuvenated Black Cats side to Anfield. Unbeaten in their last five games and with Darren Bent on a roll, five goals in four games, Rafa Benitez’s side will have to be at their best to get the three points against a side who beat them at the Stadium of Light thanks chiefly to THAT beach ball.
The Bet of the Day for me would be on would be an ambitious one. I expect a lot of goals and I would plump for a small stake on a 3-2 win for Liverpool at 33/1. Also worth a gamble is there being four or more cards shown and you get evens on that and that seems like a safe bet given just how much is at stake for the home side.
My Prediction: 3-2 to Liverpool with both Torres and Bent netting a brace each (make sure you have them both in your fantasy football teams!)
