Anfield side travel to Lisbon for Europa league showdown.
Midfielder Alberto Aquilani will miss Liverpool’s Europa League quarter-final first leg clash with Benfica after suffering an ankle injury in training.
It is the same ankle the £17m signing injured when he joined last summer.
Dirk Kuyt is likely to move back to the right side with Steven Gerrard playing a more advanced role and Lucas in for the ineligible Maxi Rodriguez.
Defender Martin Kelly has joined Martin Skrtel and Fabio Aurelio on the injury list and will require knee surgery.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez said:
“Benfica have played against us in the Champions League, they have experience and good players.
“But we also have experience at this level. It will be an important game for both clubs.
“The stadium is fantastic and the atmosphere will be very good. It will be a European night.”
Provisional squad: Reina, Johnson, Agger, Carragher, Insua, Lucas, Mascherano, Kuyt, Gerrard, Torres, Babel, Ngog, Benayoun, Cavalieri, Kyrgiakos, Spearing, Degen. (BBC Sport)
As Liverpool approach the business end of the Europa League it becomes very interesting. The final eight have a smattering of top quality sides and Rafa Benitez sees his Anfield side take on an in form Benfica side who are six points clear at the top of the Portuguese league having lost just one game all season.
Liverpool will have done well to come back from the Stadium of Light with a positive result but the performance on the weekend at home to Sunderland will have done the players a world of good and will hope to continue their Europa League adventure.
My Bet of the Day would be a fairly dull one but one I think its worth punting on nonetheless. I would opt to bet on the draw at 11/5. Backing Fernando Torres to score first at 4/1 would be a decent bet also given his fantastic run of form.
My Prediction: 1-1 draw with Dirk Kuyt to net his usual crucial Liverpool job.
