Anfield prepares itself for another big money bid.
Once again Steven Gerrard is being linked with a summer Anfield exit. Italian reports are claiming that Inter Milan will attempt an audacious £35m bid for the 29 year old England international, a bid that will surely get short shrift from Liverpool’s American owners who’s popularity is already at an incredible low.
Many sources are claiming that the Merseyside outfit will face something of an exodus if they fail to finish in the top four and that the likes of Gerrard and Fernando Torres would then look to leave the club in the summer in search of Champions League football.
It seems highly unlikely however that either player will seek an exit given the apparent love for the club and even if offers were to be made to snap up players such as these two, the bids would have to be astronomical in todays market and not the decidedly paltry sums being quoted by some sources.
Reports have however stated that a growing number of players are not happy with the way the club is being run by Messrs Tom Hicks and George Gillett and that high profile players had been told that top class players were to be brought in to help any push for major silverware but seemingly the money has not been made available for Rafa Benitez for him to do his job.
It does seem clear that the summer may see Anfield look to offload some of their squad players in order to give Benitez at least a little in the way of transfer finances with the likes of Albert Riera looking likely for the chop.
