Rafa ready to cut his losses with Anfield mistake.
Reports in Italy have suggested that Rafa Benitez is ready to cut his losses and offload Alberto Aquilani in the summer. The former Roma man has had a nightmare at Anfield since joining in the summer. Already plagued by a long term injury when Rafa somewhat unwisely purchased the Italian international, the talented midfielder has failed to get a run in the starting eleven and has seemingly become surplus to requirements in a side he has barely featured in.
A large chunk of the money forked out for the 25 year old was dependent on increments which were based on appearances and sell on agreements so perhaps the club will not have lost out greatly if they do find a prospective buyer.
Apparently some Serie A clubs would be interested in purchasing Aquilani but are very unlikely to pay anywhere near the total £20m outlay that Liverpool will have to pay. Perhaps Roma would be interested in taking the player back either way the signing itself is one that many supporters felt was more than a bit risky given the players record of being injury prone.
Alberto Aquilani has started just eight games this season and hasn’t exactly impressed but it would be unfair to judge a player on such a short spell in the team but nonetheless news is emanating from Italy that Benitez may well have reached the end of his tether and could be persuaded to sell in order to boost what little transfer funds he may well be given by the clubs embattled American owners.
