Sir Alex ready to cut his losses on Old Trafford Flop.
Manchester United are reportedly ready to cut their losses on former Tottenham forward Dimitar Berbatov in the summer. Sir Alex Ferguson has apparently ran out of patience and will even consider offers considerably lower than the £31m paid to sign the Bulgarian in September 2008.
The 29 year old’s poor performance at Ewood Park on Sunday could have been the straw that broke the camel’s back as far as the Old Trafford boss was concerned and after two seasons at the club his time could be coming to an end.
Having been a huge success at White Hart Lane Ferguson swooped to bring in a player that many had hoped would prove a big success and some had even considered Berbatov as a potential “New Cantona” but Dimitar has flattered to deceive during his time at the Premier League champions and whilst the occasional good game and his undoubted footballing ability helped paper over the cracks the cold hard facts show that in goalscoring terms he has been something of a failure.
In 82 appearances for the club Berbatov has hit the back of the net just 26 times and has not justified the original sum spent on his services and when he has been asked to shoulder the attacking burden when the club has been without the prolific services of England man Wayne Rooney, he has on the whole come up short.
It remains to be seen just who would come in for the former Bayer Leverkusen man but Man United would be lucky to receive offers half of that paid to Spurs.
