Roberto Mancini close to securing deal to bring in solid defender to Eastlands.
Hamburg chairman Bernd Hoffman has confirmed that Jerome Boateng is expected to leave the club at the end of the season amid continued links to Manchester City.
Jorn Wolf, a spokesman for the Bundesliga outfit, said on Tuesday that the Germany defender’s agent had let it be known that the player wanted a transfer.
Reports have suggested that mega-rich City have already agreed a deal to take advantage of a buyout clause, believed to be worth £11million, in Boateng’s contract.
Hamburg, Fulham’s Europa League semi-final opponents, remain quiet on the subject of business with City, but Hoffman is resigned to the fact that the 21-year-old will be sold at the end of the season after a failure to agree a contract extension.
Hoffman revealed to Bild: “We have been told by the player’s agent that Jerome Boateng is looking to move clubs this summer.
“We have to fully accept this. Talks about a new contract at our club have stalled in recent months and therefore the player still has the right to change clubs.” (Sky Sports)
Whilst its clear that Roberto Mancini has a great many attacking options to make any football fan salivate it is equally true that even with Shay Given between the sticks Man City do leak an alarming amount of goals, significantly more than anyone else in the top seven. With that in mind the Eastlands outfit appears to have more or less completed the deal to bring in talented young German international Jerome Boateng.
The 21 year old’s club have pretty much given in trying to keep the centre back at the club and Manchester City are set to sign the brother of Portsmouth’s Kevin Prince this summer. Its a signing that makes a great deal of sense. The towering former Hertha Berlin man should prove to be a very wise acquisition and will hopefully go some way to preventing the club from conceding with reckless abandon.
