Anfield boss wants Algerian international.
Liverpool have emerged as a genuine contender to sign Rangers powerhorse defender Madjid Bougherra this summer. Rafa Benitez is keen on capturing the Ibrox man and is willing to make an offer in excess of £7m for the Algerian international.
The Anfield manager is looking to strengthen his back line and has earmarked the former Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic man to help give him more options in the centre back position. The 27 year old has missed large chunks of this season through injury but is still one of Walter Smith’s most important players and the Scot will not be keen to lose him.
Bougherra may well welcome a move to the Premier League but would probably look for assurances from Benitez that he was a likely first team starter rather than becoming a bench warmer for the Merseyside outfit. The towering French born defender was dropped from the Ibrox first team after arriving back late from a World Cup qualifier earlier in the season but has since fought his way back into contention and been a key member of Rangers SPL winning side.
