Stamford Bridge star hopes to be fighting fit for the World Cup.
Michael Essien is fighting to be fit for the World Cup but has been named in Ghana’s provisional squad such is his importance to Milovan Rajevac. The 27 year old is arguably one of the best defensive minded midfielders in the world and its a credit to Chelsea that Carlo Ancelotti managed to steer the west London club to the title without one of his top players.
Essien’s ability to break down opposition advances and then turn his attentions to forward momentum is a joy to behold. Great at calmly playing the ball around in tight spaces and with the ability to lash in superb long range efforts the former Lyon man has been one of the best performers in the Premier League in recent years.
