Eastlands boss ready to offer big money for Villa Park winger.
Widespread reports this morning indicate that Manchester City are preparing a 24 million pound bid for Aston Villa midfielder James Milner.
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is eager to strengthen after failing to qualify for the Champions League and Milner was hugely impressive for Aston Villa last season.
Fabio Capello has insisted that no England players will be discussing their futures during the World Cup and Manchester City are eager to wrap up a quick deal with Chelsea also poised to bid.
Aston Villa will reportedly hold out for closer to 30 million pounds but chairman Randy Lerner will sanction the sale.
Manager Martin O’Neill is loath to lose one of his best players but he will be given the money to reinvest in the Aston Villa first team squad.
The two clubs were involved in an early transfer last summer when Gareth Barry moved from Aston Villa to Manchester City . Richard Dunne also made the opposite transfer in the summer 2009 window.

Linked with moves for around 200 players the Italian is apparently keen to stage a major clear out at Eastlands following their fifth placed finish. James Milner is his latest target but the Man City boss be able to persuade Martin O’Neill to sell?
It seems highly unlikely the Aston Villa boss is ready to sell any of his prized England trio, Milner, Agbonlahor and Ashley Young, so unless reported interest in his services turns Milner’s head this speculation could amount to nothing.
The former Leeds and Newcastle United man has had a great season and won a deserved spot in Fabio Capello’s provisional World Cup squad as a result, but will the temptation of a huge pay packed entice him to make the move north? I think not personally. If Champions League football was the carrot dangled in front of the 24 year old’s nose then perhaps there would be a chance but I can see the talented wide man sticking it out at Villa Park for the time being.
