Old Trafford boss lines up move for Ajax man.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson looks set to add Ajax’s Luis Suarez to his shortlist in a bid to find the perfect strike partner for Wayne Rooney.
According to the News of the World, the Uruguay hitman is on the Red Devils’ wish-list as they look to add some additional fire-power for next season.
Suarez has been in prolific form in the Eredivisie this term, finding the net 35 times in 33 league games for Martin Jol’s side.
Having been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, speculation is intensifying that a move this summer may well be on the cards.
It is reported that United have been monitoring the sharpshooter for several months and are readying a bid of £20 million to prise him away from the Amsterdam Arena.
Suarez has been named in the provisional World Cup squad for Uruguay, alongside former Red Devils striker Diego Forlan, and so will look to impress his potential suitors on a global stage in South Africa. (Goal.com)
On the face of it this speculation may well appear to have a basis in reality. Ajax goal machine Luis Suarez in the form of his life and Sir Alex Ferguson is supposed to be an admirer of the Uruguayan but there is only one possible problem. The slightly built striker is a very similar style of player to Wayne Rooney, both are quick and instinctive players and perhaps too alike to work well as a pair.
In many ways Ferguson would do better to bring in a big presence to help win and hold the ball before playing in the England international. 23 year old Suarez will almost certainly look to take the step up from the Dutch Eredivisie but I am not sure he will make the move to Old Trafford.
Of course Carlos Tevez worked well in 2007/08 and is also a similar style of player but the reason the Argentine worked well during that season is that he was part of a virtual three pronged attack which saw Cristiano Ronaldo come into his own and it is clear that Manchester United offer a different style of attacking football at present.
Dimitar Berbatov doesn’t appear to be the right fit either so there is no doubt that Ferguson appears to be looking for alternative options but I feel it is more likely he will opt for a more physical presence up front.
