Arjen Robben’s career was stuttering dramatically at the Bernabeu, two seasons spent trying to prove to a succession of coaches of his ability ended when the Dutchman opted for a move to Bayern Munich, it was probably the best decision of the 26 year old’s career.

A stunning return to form helped Louis Van Gaal’s side to a domestic double and a Champions League final. The talented, albeit dive prone, winger has been in magnificent form this term, scoring 23 goals, ten goals more than any other season of his career.

Dutch fans will hope that the former PSV and Chelsea man can take his club form into the World Cup campaign that could see Holland as outside bets for success.
