Stamford Bridge make concerted effort to beat off competition to Villa Park man.
Chelsea are reportedly interested in entering the race to sign Aston Villa’s England international James Milner who is seemingly close to securing a move to Manchester City. The 24 year old adaptable midfielder seems keen on leaving Villa Park and Martin O’Neill will come under even more pressure to consider allowing the former Leeds and Newcastle man to leave when a bid of around £28m is made by the west London club.
Currently on World Cup duty it has been reported that the talented Yorkshire born lad is ready to make a move after breaking into the England set up believing that a move to Eastlands would help his career progression despite the fact that Man City have not secured a Champions League spot.
It therefore seems more likely he would jump at the chance of a move to Stamford Bridge and Carlo Ancelotti is known to be interested in bringing in more ‘homegrown’ talent ahead of the new Premier League regulations set to come into force next season.
The Premier League champions are also keen to reverse the ageing look of their side and having allowed Joe Cole and Michael Ballack to run out their contracts and leave they appear to have space in their star studded squad to make just such an acquisition.
