Arsenal are reportedly interested in Italian midfielder Riccardo Montolivo and could consider a move for the Fiorentina man this summer. Currently on World Cup duty and a regular part of Marcello Lippi’s national team set up, the 25 year old has been compared to Emirates skipper Cesc Fabregas and after five seasons at La Viola could be ready to consider a move away, not least because of the club’s appalling season last term when they finished in lowly 11th spot after securing a Champions League spot in the previous season.

The former Atalanta man is known for his excellent passing ability and has great technique and touch and is just the type of player that would interest Arsene Wenger. His ability to dictate play and also weigh in with duties more akin to a defensive midfielder make him the type of player who could easily cope in the physical confines of the Premier League.

The Florence club are also said to be in deep financial trouble and may be forced to sell one of their stars and may opt to offload the Italian international if a decent deal for the £18m rated player was made. Although recently installed as captain after Dario Dainelli’s exit it seems plausible that after such a shocking season.
