Cash strapped Old Trafford side want talented Argentine.
News that Rafa Benitez is ready to offload Argentine midfielder Esteban Cambiasso as he pursues Liverpool man Javier Mascherano has led a rumoured move by Sir Alex Ferguson to sign the vastly experienced Inter Milan man.
Jose Mourinho has been linked with a move for the 29 year old former River Plate man who spent two years at the Bernabeu between 2002 and 2004 but no bid has been confirmed and Manchester United are looking to bring in a solid defensive midfielder having seen Owen Hargreaves spend the best part of two seasons out injured.
Money as always is the biggest obstacle to any such deal but if the Premier League club can get a decent price for potential departure bound players like Dimitar Berbatov and Anderson then Ferguson will presumably be able to reinvest funds to improve his Old Trafford squad.
The £18m rated Buenos Aires born battler would surely prefer a move to Man United over a deal to take him to Anfield, not least because he could then continue playing Champions League football but also be able to challenge for silverware at the highest level.
Some years ago Ferguson was known to be an admirer of the follically challenged Inter Milan man. Sir Alex Ferguson has had another name added to his World Cup watch – Argentina’s Esteban Cambiasso. The Inter Milan midfielder’s name has emerged as part of a potential swap plus cash that would send Ruud van Nistelrooy to the San Siro.” (Manchester Evening News)
