Reports in Germany are suggesting that Sir Alex Ferguson is considering a big money move for German international attacker Lukas Podolski. The 25 year old moved to FC Cologne from Bayern Munich last summer but had a very poor first season back to his first pro club and could well be interested in a move to the Premier League.

The Polish born forward can also play very effective out wide and has a knack of scoring crucial goals but only managed two goals last term in 27 Bundesliga appearances as his side struggled to a 13th placed finish.

Sir Alex Ferguson is known to be an admirer and has been told he will have funds to spend this summer to help keep his Old Trafford side pushing for domestic and European silverware next term.

Podolski is rated at around £16m but could be purchased for a smaller fee given the financial problems his German employers are under having missed out on any form of European football for next term.

Ferguson could well use with more creativity in and around the opposition penalty box and could net something of a bargain if any move turns the talented flair player’s head.
